Wear your heart on your sleeve with our handcrafted Mayalu bracelets. Inspired by the Hindu mangala sutra style, Mayalu means “love of my heart” in Nepali. Each piece is lovingly crafted by women co-ops of Nepal.
Our intricately beaded bracelets draw inspiration from the mangala sutra, a necklace that signifies a married woman in Hindu culture. To create these pieces, artisans use looms for weaving and various knitting techniques to achieve different designs. We purchase the high quality seed beads from Nepali wholesalers -- one more way in which we support local economies.
Many of our co-op production partners are members of the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO). The WFTO describes Fair Trade as "a trading partnership, based on dialogue, transparency and respect, that seeks greater equity in international trade. It contributes to sustainable development by offering better trading conditions to, and securing the rights of, marginalized producers and workers." WFTO certified organizations must also abide by a set of shared principles which hold production centers accountable for creating opportunities for disadvantaged workers and record keeping with regards to human rights best practices and environmental accountability. Fair Trade proves that a successful business can also put people first. It highlights the need for change in the rules and practice of conventional trade. And, it provides an outlet for action in the fight against poverty, climate change and economic crisis. Our company is proud to support all of these principles and core values.
